Canal Festival

The ever popular one day canal festival celebrates and highlights canal life and conservation, the countryside and the traditional rural crafts of yesteryear. 2018’s Canal Festival was again, a huge success with over 9,000 visitors attending annually to enjoy great entertainment, good quality stalls and some beautiful boats joining us on the day.

Along the canal side a vibrant mixture of working, historical and trade boats display their wares in addition to the colourful pleasure boats which visit the festival. The boats offer the perfect opportunity to purchase that unique gift for a loved one, or a gentle afternoon browse away from the hustle and bustle of a busy shopping centre.

The festival features a mix of Old English crafts and skills, alongside a more modern mix of food stalls, craft exhibits and activities for the whole family to enjoy

Throughout the day the main stage often features a mixture of traditional folk and English country music, together with some more contemporary numbers from local performers.

With a wide range of food stalls and a licensed bar on site, eating/drinking whilst taking a seat on a hay bale, is all part of the festival and enjoyed by many annually.

The Children’s Trail is FREE

Leighton Buzzard town centre is a great place for children as well as adults and one of the best ways for them to have fun is to take the Children’s Trail.

The Leighton – Linslade Children’s Trail is a public trail of 22 artworks celebrating children’s stories for little people, with big imaginations, to explore.

The Children’s Trail is a FREE family activity, that is always available.

The Children’s Trail is partly inspired by the books of Mary Norton, who lived in the town as a child and set The Borrowers in The Manor House, now Leighton Middle School. Free challenge-based activity maps allow young followers of the Trail to seek out the hidden treasures and delight in the discovery of something unusual, in unnoticed places – up above their heads or at their feet – and use their own imaginations to interpret the meanings of the shadows, word and sculptures they discover.

visit to download the map or call in at Leighton Buzzard library to pick one up.
