Lord Lieutenant Oak Bank Sports Hall

Official Opening of Oak Bank Sports Hall

On Friday 21 st June, Oak Bank School was proud to welcome HM Lord Lieutenant Helen Nellis to officially
open its new sports hall. The sports hall is a wonderful new addition to the school, providing a dedicated
space to enable pupils to enjoy a full range of sports. The new sports hall also includes an amazing climbing
wall that was generously donated by The Connolly Foundation.
The opening ceremony was a wonderful opportunity for the governors, staff and pupils to share their new
sports hall with the guests. It also gave the pupils an opportunity to present HM Lord Lieutenant Helen
Nellis with a bird table that had been made by the pupils. HM Lord Lieutenant Helen Nellis tweeted after
the event ‘ I was so impressed by the pupils, staff, governors and supporters at oak bank School when I
went to open their incredible new Sports Hall today. Great to meet the inspirational Head, Peter Cohen and
his staff who are passionate about giving the children the best opportunities in life. It is very evident why
Ofsted rate this as an outstanding school for children with Special Educational Need. I will treasure the bird
table the children made me and it will have pride of place in my garden’.
The day was a double celebration for the school as it formally opened the Raisbeck memorial garden in
memory of a former Chair of Governors, Ian Raisbeck. The school was delighted to welcome Ian’s wife,
Shelia Raisbeck to perform the official opening who performed the ceremony with Conor Hamilton, the
pupil who had designed the garden. The garden provides staff and pupils with a quiet space to sit and
relax.
